If you want to get started with fishing, you'll quickly find yourself facing a huge range of products at the tackle shop. But you really don't need much to get started.

Rod and Reel

An all-round rod between 3 and 3.6 m long with a medium casting weight range (10–40 g) covers most fishing situations. Pair it with a simple spinning reel in size 3000 or 4000.

Line

Monofilament nylon line with a diameter of 0.25–0.30 mm is ideal for beginners.

Hooks and Accessories

• Round-bend hooks size 6–10 for coarse fish and perch
• Split shots to weight the rig
• Float for bank fishing

Bait

With earthworms or maggots, you can catch almost any fish.

Tip: Buy used gear — fishing forums often have good sets for €30–50.
